"UNITE-IN-FITBALL"

2nd May 2002

Dundee United launched today their healthy life style project "Unite-In-Fitball" at Gussie Park as part of the Dundee United School of Excellence.

Organised by DUFC and SFA Community Officer John Holt, this project is officially endorsed by Scotland Against Drugs and partners Les Turriff Wholesale Fruit & Vegetable Merchants and Barr Softdrinks.

The objective of this project is to implant good habits in children at a young age, promoting the benefits of a balanced diet and regular exercise as part of football courses held at Gussie Park. As such, every Unite-In-Fitball course participant will receive a bottle of water and take home three pieces of fresh fruit at each session, to name but one of the features of this project.

In an interview held this afternoon, John Holt declared: "It gives me great satisfaction to launch "Unite-in-Fitball" today, a far-reaching project which has enlisted the support of Scotland Against Drugs. Our aim is to engage children in healthy habits based on fitness through sport and a balanced diet as part of their growing up and I believe, that as a professional football club, we are ideally suited to deliver on this score. The handing out of fruit and water as part of a number of my courses is intended to be a very concrete way of spreading the message. We also think it will help to shape some positive connections in the minds of young children, associating a healthy diet with bodily and social confidence as part of the football and fun environment we can offer in the safety of our superb all-weather facility at Gussie Park."
