Earlier today, Alex Smith expressed his delight at the thought of United supporters going back to work this morning with the added feel-good factor of a derby win over local rivals Dundee. "To have won 1-0 over Dundee, and to have done that on their ground gives me a fair amount of satisfaction, and the resultant league advantage merely adds to that. More than anything, we wanted to win this match for the sake of our supporters and I do feel that we very much deserved to win. Dundee, who are very capable of playing excellent football, started the game in bright fashion, but once we had settled down, we took control thanks to the excellent midfield play of Craig Easton and Charlie Miller. We never looked like losing the grip on the match from then onwards. I must also praise the outstanding performance of the back four. Jim Lauchlan and David McCracken were particularly convincing and are threatening to form a very successful partnership. It also pleases me that young Stuart Duff has again played at this level and shown great cool belying his age. Looking forward, we feel the evidence of the last few games augurs well for next season."
