On Monday afternoon, Manager Alex Smith felt encouraged by yet another win and fine performance from his team two days earlier. "Saturday's encounter with Motherwell proved to be a very competitive game, one which I think we deserved to win, particularly because of our second half-performance. The first half was very evenly contested with both teams missing reasonable chances. As the game moved on into the second half, we gained the upper hand, controlling the midfield where Easton, Miller and Venetis were outstanding. After some excellent leading-up play, Charlie unleashed a short shot on target which the goalkeeper touched onto the post, and Thompson managed to net on the rebound. From then onwards, our play in midfield became stronger and more creative and we threatened on a few occasions to increase the lead."
"In terms of our league position and in view of next Saturday's derby at Dens, it was crucial for us to take all three points, and it is always very pleasing to be able to do that at home."
In closing, the Manager stated: "As in previous weeks, I have derived great satisfaction from the promise of our young players and I was again impressed by the contribution of Duff, O'Donnell, Winters and debutant Ogunmade in Saturday's game. Blooding players in this way is important for the Club and gives other youngsters at the Club great encouragement. We are set to continue this strategy in our next matches."
