MORE YOUNG TANGERINES SIGN UP

18th April 2002

Following last week's signing of United starlets Mark Wilson and Stephen O'Donnell, Manager Alex Smith announced today that four further young players had pledged their future with United, namely Under-21's goalkeeper Paul Jarvie, last Saturday's SPL debutant Danny Ogunmade, top-scoring Stephen McGowan and wing back Paul Allum. In offering these players new contracts, the Club continues with its youth policy that has proven so successful in the past and has continued ever since Alex Smith took over the Tangerines' reigns. "Rearing our own players has always been at heart of United's philosophy and I am extremely delighted to be involved in that aspect - it's the most enjoyable part of the job. It is very rewarding to coach and develop young players through to the first team and, as has been seen recently, to international level."
Ever since Alan Combe went on loan to Bradford City, Jarvie has been the understudy of Paul Gallacher at the Club. United have secured the services of the Aberdeen born Under-21 internationalist who has impressed with outstanding performances thoughout the season for a further three years. In Danny Ogunmade, who played the last ten minutes versus Motherwell the previous week, the Manager feels he has signed a very exciting left winger with immense pace. With 16 goals to his name in Under-18 and Under-21 appearances this season, Stephen McGowan is United's current top scorer at those levels whilst Paul Allum is an outstanding young right back in the McCunnie and Duff mould. Stephen, Danny and Allum have all signed two-year contracts.
