ALEX SMITH - WE COULD HAVE WON

10th February 2002

United Manager Alex Smith was reasonably pleased to have taken a point from yesterday's visit to Almondvale for the match against third placed Livingston. "This season, Almondvale has been a difficult place to take anything away from, and to take a point was reasonable although we would obviously have preferred to take away all three. I thought that the first half was fairly even. We might even have been in front at half time when David Winters hit the crossbar. For the first twenty minutes of the second half, Livingston took over the game. After they scored, they dominated for a while, however, in the final twenty minutes of the match we were in ascendancy, got the equaliser and, in the end, we had a great chance to win it when Derek Lilley was put through. A draw was probably the right result."

United's recent form has been up and down with three wins, two defeats and now a draw from their last six SPL matches. The Tangerines will need to continue with that level of points gathering if they are to have a chance of reaching the top six. However, they have a difficult run for their last five league games before the split starting next weekend with a visit to Pittodrie.
