Dundee United FC Women are thrilled to announce the return of club record appearance holder Megan Burns following two years away from the club.
The left back, who is equally comfortable at centre back, was one of the first players to sign for the club in its first season in 2016, winning three league titles and one cup over her six years.
Burns, who progressed to captain, which saw her lift the SWPL2 trophy at Tannadice, made 124 appearances in her previous spell, which also saw her also chip in with sixteen goals.
She departed at the end of the 2021/22 season to head to Montrose, where she also won the same trophy before spending the majority of last season on loan to St Johnstone.
Burns, 27, believes the time was right to return to a club that she supports and has a great affiliation to.
“Being back at United just feels right. I’m grateful to be given the opportunity to play for a club that I hold close to my heart. I have a lot of great memories from my previous seasons here, and I’m excited to make even more.”
“Coming back maybe feels like unfinished business. I left in 2022 when the club were promoted, and I felt like that was the perfect time to leave and pursue other ventures. However, seeing their fight and determination to stay up last season made me realise how special this club is, and it’s a club I want to be a part of.”
Head Coach Suzy Shepherd feels Burns’ experience will boost her back line as she continues to add to her squad.
“Megan is a player that knows the club well, having previously played for Dundee United, and I am looking forward to working with her this season. She is going to bring experience, aggression and a balance to our backline.”
