ALEX-ITS CRUNCH TIME FOR TOP SIX

16th February 2002

With a difficult five match run in to the SPL split, United Manager Alex Smith knows that every game is vital from here on in.

"As we approach the number of matches where the SPL split takes place, we are now at the crunch games stage where the next set of matches will determine whether we finish in the top six," he said.
"In every match we must go for the win and we are at the situation where there is no room for error if we are to make it to the top six. In today's match at Pittodrie, we must aim to take the three points back to Tannadice."

"Aberdeen is never an easy place to visit but we have lost one in controversial circumstances and won one on our previous two visits. There is no doubt that this could be a very exciting match. A win would also be important for confidence to take into next week's Scottish Cup Quarter-Final."

"We are hoping that Derek Lilley and Tommo will continue with their goalscoring form away from home and we will also welcome back Danny Griffin from international duty. It would also be a very interesting game for the new Scotland boss to take in with so many young Scots in each team."

The match kicks off at 3pm and is pay at the gate.
