FOUR DUNDEE UNITED STARS INCLUDED IN PFA SCOTLAND CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM OF THE YEAR

19th April 2024

Dundee United are thrilled to welcome the news that four members of our first-team squad have been included in the PFA Scotland Championship Team of the Year.

Kevin Holt, Scott McMann, Craig Sibbald and Louis Moult have been selected by their peers as the best in class for their respective positions throughout the 2023/24 campaign, with the Terrors boasting more representatives than any other second-tier outfit.

Kevin Holt - LCB

Our second signing of the 2023 summer window, the veteran defender hit the ground running immediately on his return to Tannadice Street.

Holt struck up a fruitful partnership with Scotland international Declan Gallagher in the heart of the Terrors' defence, keeping 15 clean sheets in his 30 Championship appearances this term.

The 31-year-old has also carried a threat going forward, and is currently the division's top-scoring defender with six goals - half of which came in an historic hat-trick against his former club, Partick Thistle, on Matchday Nine.

Scott McMann - LB

In what has been a landmark season for our number 33, McMann has completed a century of appearances for the club, notched his first goal in tangerine and played more minutes than any other outfielder at Tannadice.

Alongside Holt, the Kirkintilloch native is our first defensive representative in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year since Andrew Robertson, who sparkled in his breakthrough 2013/14 season.

He currently possesses the highest dribble success percentage in the league, with 70.43%, and his 393 progressive passes see him rank second only to Airdrieonians stopper Callum Fordyce for this metric.

Craig Sibbald - CM

A fans' favourite on the terraces of Tannadice, Sibbald has personified the fighting spirit of our season in the middle of the park.

The combative midfielder has also contributed three goals to our promotion push, finding the back of the net in resounding victories against Arbroath, Partick Thistle and most recently Queen's Park.

When he is coupled with skipper Ross Docherty in the engine room, United's win percentage stands at a remarkable 74%, thereby underlining his importance to our 2023/24 successes so far.

Louis Moult - ST

Upon his return to Scotland last July, the former Motherwell man claimed he had 'unfinished business' north of the border. His scintillating season spearheading our frontline has gone a considerable distance in scratching the self-confessed itch.

With a phenomenal return of 17 goals and five assists, Moult has been directly involved in almost a third of all goals scored by United in the league this term. Furthermore, no other player in the second tier has recorded more goal contributions than our number nine.

He scooped the league-wide Player of the Month award for March, one which came in tandem with the Goal of the Month trophy for his outrageous, 50-yard strike against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The PFA's acknowledgment of his prolificacy is the cherry on the cake for the most goal-laden campaign of the striker's career.

'A GREAT HONOUR'

United Manager Jim Goodwin expressed his satisfaction in seeing four of his side selected in the XI, commenting: "I'm incredibly proud and to have so many members of my squad included in the Team of the Year.

"It's a great honour for their abilities to be hailed by the players with whom they share a pitch."

He continued: "Kevin, Scott, Craig and Louis all thoroughly deserve the recognition. Not only has their form throughout the season been fantastic, but they have been an example of professionalism in the dressing room.

"Having four representatives also conveys the strength in the collective we have here at Tannadice, and I have no doubts we could've had even more lads included!"
