United travelled to Links Park yesterday evening to play against Montrose in a match designed to give some of the squad a game. Included in the Tannadice side were some of the Under 21 players who have been starved of much needed match action during their shut down period.
Coach Paul Hegarty was pleased to see some of the team get a run out. "It was a worthwhile exercise especially for some of the fringe players. Some have not played for two to three weeks and Montrose gave us a very competitive match and a good test."
In a 1-1 draw, Steven Thompson (pictured) scored United's goal and their were solid performances from Alan Combe, Stephen O'Donnell and Mark Wilson. "This gave another match to Stephen and Mark at this level," continued Paul. " It should give them more confidence as they progress in the game."
The United Coach was happy to have had the opportunity of such a match. "I am delighted that Montrose offered us the game and we will probably repay the compliment in the near future."
