Despite Steven Thompson hitting a double this afternoon at Ibrox, United were still defeated by Rangers 2-3 in Glasgow to slip further down the SPL League table to 8th.
The Tangerines acquitted themselves well and could have come away with the point that Manager Alex Smith felt that they were worth. Rangers went ahead in the 21st minute through an Arveladze left foot drive. Despite a Steven Thompson equaliser, United went in at half time 1-2 down when slack defending from a corner just before the break allowed Amoruso a free header that put the home side ahead again.
A second from Arveladze minutes into the second half seemed to put Rangers well on the way to victory however a second from Tommo made for an exciting match. United should have equalised in the final minutes when Thompson and McCunnie combined to put Ronnie O'Brien through however the player on loan from Juventus (pictured) could not convert.
United went some way to recover from the 1-6 reverse earlier at Tannadice this season however with a difficult set of matches over the Festive fixtures, Alex Smith will be looking to get back on track at home to Hearts, who have now climbed above United in the table, on Boxing Day.
UNITED: Gallacher, McCunnie, Lauchlan, Griffin Partridge, Carson (Hannah 59), Miller, Easton, Venetis (O'Brien 70), Paterson McConalogue 84), Thompson SUBS NOT USED: Combe, Hamilton
