As Dundee United fans begin travelling to Holland for the second leg fixture against AZ Alkmaar, Dutch Police are looking forward to welcoming them.
They have also asked for the following information to be passed onto our travelling support:
Pre Match
Supporters who do not have match tickets are advised not to travel to Alkmaar itself.
It is a small city with small bars not set up for football fans and laws in Netherlands mean there is a possibility that fans attending the city on matchday without a ticket will be arrested.
Amsterdam has a lot of large sports bars that can accommodate football fans and fans without tickets are encouraged to stay in Amsterdam where they can watch the game in a safe, welcoming environment.
Match Time
There will be a cordon around the stadium with barrier checks that only allows supporters with a valid ticket into the stadium approaches.
There will be DUFC officials in the away end. It has been reiterated that no home end tickets will be sold to Dundee United fans.
Any supporters in the home end at the game will be ejected.
There will be no alcohol on sale within the stadium.
Post Match
After the match, buses will be provided at the ground to take supporters to the train station and trains heading back to Amsterdam will be alcohol free.
Train operators are aware of the number of fans and the times of travel back to Amsterdam. They will ensure adequate trains are in place to ensure safe travel back to Amsterdam.
AZ Alkmaar fans' guide
Our hosts AZ Alkmaar have also compiled a useful fans' guide.
VISITORS ENTRANCE
By car:
Through the fence at the Kooimeerplein roundabout, P6. Only visitors with a valid ticket will be admitted. Pedestrians will not be allowed to enter here.
Pedestrians:
Through the pedestrian tunnel near the main entrance alongside P5.
PUBS
There are many pubs and restaurants in the city centre (Waagplein). Pubs are open to Dundee United fans
AZ SUPPORTERS
Before the match, the AZ fans will be in the pubs near the “Platte Stenenbrug” bridge. The pubs at de Waagplein Square can be used as a meeting point foreign football supporters.
DISTANCES
The distance between the city centre and the AZ stadium is too long for a walk. That’s why a march is not possible. Instead, there will be a special (free) bus service from the city centre to the stadium and back.
The distance between the train station and the Waagplein Square cafe is a 15-minute walk.
BUS SERVICE & TAXIS
The touring cars to the stadium depart next to the Karperton parking garage (across from the Amstelhoek cafe). Departure time is around 18.30 and every 15 minutes after that.
After the match the busses will go from the stadium to the train station of Alkmaar, for the fans travelling to Amsterdam.
AMSTERDAM
Foreign supporters often stay in Amsterdam and travel by train to Alkmaar for the match.
