We are delighted to announce Academy graduate Chris Mochrie has signed a two-year contract extension which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2024.
Chris, born and bred in Dundee, joined Our Academy from Logie Harp BC whilst also continuing to play in the Scottish FA Performance School Programme at St John's High School. He went on to be an integral part of the St John's side which lifted the Scottish Cup in 2019, and also represented Scotland at various youth levels in competitions such as the Victory Shield and UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifiers, scoring against Armenia in the latter.
The attacking midfielder's impressive performances for the U18s during the 2018/19 season saw him rewarded with a first-team appearance aged just 16 years and 27 days old against Greenock Morton, becoming Dundee United's youngest ever player at the time.
Chris has since gone on to make 17 appearances since, including cinch Premiership starts against Hearts, Rangers and Hibernian, as well as making 24 outings for League One side Montrose on a season-long loan. The 18-year-old netted his first goal for the first-team in July 2021 in a 6-1 Premier Sports Cup rout of Elgin City.
He becomes the eighth Academy graduate to put pen to paper on a new deal in the last 12 months.
Speaking to DUTV on his extension, Chris said "I'm delighted to extend my stay here. I think the club is moving forward and I'd like to be a part of it. Tony approached me in January and after that, it didn't take too long to get it sorted. I think for me it's about pushing on and getting more gametime and whenever I've come into the side I've really enjoyed it"
Sporting Director Tony Asghar added “We are delighted to secure Chris on an extended contract. When we first came to the Club, he was already a player who had been identified as a bright prospect from within Our Academy.
Still only 18, he has shown in his First Team appearances to date that he is a fantastic talent and we are excited to oversee the next stage of his development.”
