Alex Smith felt United's 2-1 win over St Johnstone yesterday could possibly have been more emphatic when he spoke after the game. In particular he referred to the second-half incident involving Saints' on-loan 'keeper Alan Miller and United's Steven Thompson.
"From where I was, I thought we would have had a penalty there. The referee maybe saw something I didn't see, but he called it as he saw it."
"As far as the sendings-off were concerned, the referee had no option because it was both linesmen who spotted the infringements. The referee just acted in accordance with the linesmen's thoughts on it."
"It was a very good three points for us but it was a hard, hard game. It was also a very good game, I thought, particularly in the second half. It was end to end stuff, a typical derby."
"I thought St Johnstone started off the game superbly well and put us under severe pressure but we gradually worked our way into the game and as the game wore on we started to threaten and I think when the first goal came we deserved it at that point."
"I think it was an entertaining game from start to finish. At 2-1 for us with ten minutes to go, we were still going forward, and pushing forward to get a third, as if we were the team that was behind. If I have a criticism of the team that may be it. We could have calmed it a little bit when we were in front."
