YOUNG TERRORS GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS

The Young Terrors picked up their second win of the CAS Under 18 Elite League in their penultimate game of the season with a 2-1 victory away at Aberdeen.

Lewis Neilson and Kai Fotheringham continued their run for the 18s following their loans at Falkirk, while Chris Mochrie made his return after his spell at Montrose came to an end. They were inclusions that would prove to be key as it was Mochrie's creative tenacity that set up United's opener, while Fotheringham found the winner in style.

Last weeks poor finishing cost the Young Terrors at Cormac Park, but Darren Watson ensured the same mistakes would not be made as he fired United in front after just three minutes. Mochrie was instrumental, with a rampaging run down the right flank which no Aberdeen shirt could stop he then found Watson in the six-yard box and the young striker kept his composure to knock the ball home.

Similarly to the match seven days ago, this afternoon's game was an entertaining encounter which saw both sides create excellent opportunities. Aberdeen almost hit back quickly through Kevin Hanratty whose good run was thwarted by a strong tackle from the last United shirt, before Ruairidh Adams grabbed his shot with a diving save a minute later. 

The equaliser would come in the 18th minute through a fine strike from Ryan Duncan. The Aberdeen winger stepped up for a free-kick 25-yards from goal, which he dispatched right into the top corner. United were fortunate not to go behind only a few minutes later when Michael Dangana's powerful strike came crashing off the post.

Mochrie and Fotheringham gave Aberdeen a torrid time, and the Dons defence couldn't cope with their pace and skill while the Young Terrors began to take control of the game in the second half.

The Aberdeen stopper produced some fine saves to stop the Young Terrors from enjoying an even more comfortable scoreline. Mochrie looked to grab his second assist on the hour mark when he found Fotheringham with the cutback, but Mason Hancock did well to parry the ball away from danger. He then produced some incredible reflexes to keep out Fin Malcolm from point-blank range ten minutes later.

Neilson thought he'd got United's winner when he looked to place the ball into the bottom corner, but another top-drawer save from the Aberdeen keeper kept him at bay.

The Young Terrors kept the belief that they would find a way past Hancock, and they finally would in the 84th minute through Fotheringham. The young attacker picked the ball up in the middle of the park before playing a one-two on the edge of the box and firing the ball into the roof of the net. 

Next up for the Under-18s is their final game of the season against Hamilton at the HPC at St Andrews University.
