Delighted with how his charges have responded since the Rangers game, the heavy defeat by the Ibrox side literally had an impact on how the United manager is now viewing the game.
"When John Blackley was suspended and had to sit in the stand, I was stationed in the dug-out along with the rest of the substitutes, coaches, physio and Club Doctor," stated Alex. "Following the 1-6 reverse against Rangers, I decided to change around some things. One change was that John reverted back to the dug-out while I elected to view the match from various parts of the stand which would provide me with different perspectives on how the team were playing. Against Dumbarton, I watched from the outside the Directors Box in the Fair Play Stand in line with the centre line. Following that win I sat in the stand at Tynecastle where once again United were victorious. Against St Johnstone at Tannadice, I viewed some of the game from behind the glass in the Executive Boxes and then on Saturday in the Hibs game, I sat at the corner of the South Stand. Seeing the game from different angles has been very informative and one side benefit is that the players do not know where I'm shouting from. It keeps them on their toes."
Alex also mentioned the element of superstition. "We've won every match since I decided to move around," he laughed.
The United Manager was very pleased with the effort of the players. "They are demonstrating fighting spirit, are battling for every ball and are closing the opposition down quickly. When Charlie Miller went off, we had to change things around a bit. I thought after 25 minutes, we came into the game with David Hannah coming on to play a significant part in our win."
