United made it two derby wins in eleven days today after a 1-0 win in a behind closed door reserve friendly at Dens Park this afternoon, courtesy of a Louis Appere penalty.
It was a dominant display from United's reserves who took on a highly experienced Dundee side which included the likes of Jack Hamilton, Liam Fontaine, Declan McDaid and Cammy Kerr.
Our Academy graduates Kerr Smith, Flynn Duffy, Lewis Neilson, Adam Hutchinson, Kai Fotheringham and Chris Mochrie put in some highly impressive performances as United enjoyed the majority of possession with some stunning attacking flair but struggled to find the breakthrough.
That was until midway through the second half when Appere struck the post after a fine team move. He collected the rebound on the byline and as he moved back into the box to try and manufacture an opening he was brought down. The young forward confidently stepped up and dispatched the spot-kick, sending Hamilton the wrong way.
United kept up their dominance for the remainder of the afternoon, with all substitutes coming on for game time making it a worthwhile workout for everyone involved.
United Starting XI: Newman, Hutchinson, Duffy, Neilson, Graham (C), Smith, Hoti, Davidson, Appere, Mochrie, Fotheringham.
