It was another productive weekend for our Young Terrors on loan.
It started with a bang on Friday night at the Falkirk Stadium with a seven-goal thriller between East Stirling and The Spartans in The Soccer Shop Challenge Cup. It was quite a remarkable night for both The Spartans, and young Archie Meekison, as they found themselves 3-0 down after 30 mins. In an unbelievable turnaround, they managed to take the game into extra time with two fine goals by 18-year-old Archie. The youngster then completed his hat trick and the winning goal in extra time with a great finish from 18 yards.
Cammy Smith also found himself on the scoresheet in their comfortable 2-0 home win over title-challenging Dundee. Cammy opened the scoring with a fine finish and completed the 90 mins in a solid win for the Honest Men.
Another loanee to get himself on the scoresheet was 17-year-old Chris Mochrie in Montrose’s 3-2 defeat away to Clyde in their League One clash. The youngster scored a great goal to make it 2-2 but he was outdone by one of our own, David Goodwillie, who completed his hat trick to gain three valuable points for the Bully Wee.
Young Kieran Freeman completed another solid performance in defence for Peterhead in their clash with Dumbarton. He defended stoutly in their 1-0 home win over their fellow League One competitors.
It was a difficult day for Flo Hoti and his Forfar teammates as they lost 3-1 at home to Airdrie. They made it extremely hard for themselves as they were 3-1 down after 20 mins and although they made some tactical changes, they didn’t quite manage to get back into the game and Airdrie saw the game out quite comfortably.
Ross Graham was an unused sub in table-topping Cove Rangers' first league defeat of the season away to title-challenging Falkirk. They conceded a goal to Callum Morrison just after half time and they tried to push for an equaliser but to no avail.
Kelty Hearts had another fine win at home to Cumbernauld Colts in the Soccer Shop Challenge Cup for The Lowland League teams. Young Nathan Cooney was an unused sub for the experienced team but, hopefully, will gain some game time on Wednesday when they pair up again in league action.
It was great to see young Mackenzie Lemon get some valuable game time in a very competitive environment. He played the full 90 mins for Dundee North End in their 2-2 draw away to Brechin Vics.
