Despite difficult conditions, Dundee United defeated Brechin City 3-1 yesterday evening in the re-arranged Forfarshire Cup match at Glebe Park.
United fielded a strongish side containing O'Brien, Wright, Buchan, Paterson, Venetis, McConalogue and David Winters. Paul Jarvie was in goal with Jim Lauchlan ruled out due to a stomach upset.
In wet and windy conditions, the tangerines went in front in the first quarter of an hour through McConalogue with David Winters firing in a second before the half-hour mark. Brechin pulled a goal back before half-time in front of a near empty stadium with United's trialist securing the game in the second half. Coach Maurice Malpas commented, "We controlled the match, however, all credit to Brechin who made us fight for the victory in the second period."
This was United's first venture back into the Forfarshire Cup in many years.
