Hall of Fame 2019 - Craig Brewster

This coming Friday sees the 2019 Hall of Fame Dinner take place in the West End Lounge at Tannadice Park, and four more Dundee United legends will be inducted. In the run-up to the event, we have profiled three of the four inductees - Jimmy Brownlie, Tommy Neilson and Ivan Golac. Today it is the turn of the final inductee, Craig Brewster.

Dundonian Craig started his career as a youth at United. He left for junior football and then played with Forfar Athletic and Raith Rovers before returning to United as Ivan Golac's first-signing in 1993.

He attained hero status at the Club, scoring the only goal to win the Scottish Cup in 1994. He was also top scorer that year. During the First Division campaign of 1995-96, Craig was top scorer again, but after helping United to regain senior league status, he left to join Greek side Ionikos.

When Brewster left United in 1996, he enjoyed five years in Greece with Ionikos before returning to Scotland in 2001 to play for Hibs, and one year later he signed for Dunfermline Athletic. In November 2004, at the age of 37, Brewster was appointed Player/Manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Brewster coped well with the combined role, consolidating Inverness's place in the SPL during his 13-month spell in charge. Brewster returned to Tannadice in January 2006 as Player-Manager.

However, Brewster picked up a long term injury in his first game back as a player, and although he was Manager for only ten months, he laid foundations behind the scenes and made notable signings that other managers would benefit from.
