Reserve League: Motherwell 1 Dundee United 2

17th December 2018

Thanks to a superb late winner, the Terrors deservedly came out on top in a match which was played at Penny Cars Stadium, Airdrie, after Forthbank, the original venue, was deemed unplayable.

An evenly contested first half produced little by way of goalmouth action other than Motherwell hitting the post after 38 minutes.

But that was to all change after the break.

On 58 minutes, Louis Appere broke clear but Well keeper Morrison dived at his feet to deny him the opener.

Immediately after that James Scott headed against the bar at the other end.

And after that let off, United raced to the other end and Appere was again through on Morrison who again denied him but this time only by hauling him down.

That resulted in the keeper being booked before Logan Chalmers converted the penalty.

With 15 minutes left Scott fired home Motherwell’s leveller from 25 yards.

Three minutes from time Jamie Robson’s brave interception on the halfway line enabled him to charge down the left before delivering a low cross which substitute Scott Banks fired high into the net from 8 yards.

Dundee United: Donaldson, Reekie, Bollan, Zata (Banks 79), Davidson, Allardice, Chalmers, Inglis, Ward (Jones 79), Appere, Robson.
