TANNADICE OPENS DOORS CHRISTMAS DAY TO 120 FESTIVE FRIENDS

19th December 2018

Festive Friends is back for 2018 and this year’s event is even bigger and better than ever before!  Thanks to monies raised from the Team DUCT Kiltwalkers earlier in the year and funding received from the SPFL Trust, the Community Trust is opening the doors of Tannadice to up to 120 local residents who may otherwise be on their own.

For this year, the Community Trust will be working in partnership with the Ambassador Bar whose staff will also be spending their time and volunteering on Christmas Day! The event will be held across both Tannadice and the Ambassador successively to give the most isolated of our society a fantastic extended Christmas Day experience! Kicking off at Tannadice at 11am and running until 2pm, festivities will continue at the Ambassador from early afternoon until 4pm.  We are also working on transport to assist with getting guests to and from the event and from venue to venue.

Jamie Kirk, Head of Operations for the Community Trust said: “Festive Friends is now a key part of our programme but I’m particularly pleased to be able to deliver the event on Christmas Day this year.  Both ourselves and the Ambassador had plans in the pipeline for a number of months and I’m really proud to be working together to maximise the benefit for local people on what for some will be the hardest day of the year.”

Kate Fraser Direct of the Ambassador Bar added: “The Ambassador is opening its door on Christmas Day to the public from 1pm to 4pm we will be offering free meals to lonely pensioners and homeless people in Dundee. There will be an exchange of gifts, films music, raffles and bingo. Also, the bar will be open for refreshments.”

There are still places left across both venues and we would really encourage you to get in touch per email if you know of anyone who would benefit from coming along.  Perhaps a neighbour or family friend who doesn’t get out much.

The Community Trust would also welcome donations of gifts, be it on the part of businesses or individuals, for our guests to give them a fantastic Christmas Day. Should you wish to donate a present, please email the Community Trust at michael.malone@dundeeunitedct.co.uk.

The Community Trust would like to thank everybody who is supporting this event at this important time of year, in particular their partners Dundee United Football Club, the SPFL Trust, The Ambassador, Dundee Foodbank, Lidl, Scotmid Co-operative, Stirfresh and Taught by Mohammad whom are all pulling together to give isolated and vulnerable people in Dundee a great Christmas Day experience!
