Dundee United today announced Robbie Neilson as Head Coach. The 38-year-old has signed a deal through to the end of the 2019/20 season at Tannadice and will take charge of the team ahead of Saturday's trip to Partick Thistle.
Neilson, who made 23 appearances for United as a player during the 2011/12 season, enjoyed great success as manager of Hearts winning the Championship title and securing European football via a third-place finish in the Premiership during his tenure at Tynecastle. He left Hearts for MK Dons in December 2016 and spent thirteen months at Stadium MK.
Robbie Neilson said, "It is an exciting opportunity at a great club and I am confident that I can lead Dundee United back to the Premiership. This is the perfect challenge for me at a club I know well and I am looking forward to meeting the coaching staff and players tomorrow and getting straight to work ahead of Saturday's match at Partick Thistle."
Chairman Mike Martin said, "I am delighted that Robbie has agreed to become Head Coach at Dundee United. From a long list of impressive applications, he was the outstanding candidate. We were convinced by his track record and experience, his style and approach to coaching and management and his plans and vision for this club."
Renowned for his meticulous approach and attention to detail, Neilson's previous experience in the Championship with Hearts was a fantastic success with the club winning 29 of the 36 league fixtures and amassing an incredible 91 points en route to securing the title.
Neilson will take his first training session on Tuesday and meet the media on Tuesday afternoon.
He joins United with the club currently 4th in the Championship and eight points behind leaders Ayr United.
United travel to play Partick Thistle this coming Saturday (13/10) and then host Inverness at Tannadice on 20th October in what will be Robbie Neilson's first home fixture as United Head Coach. Tickets for both games are available from the ticket centre on Tannadice Street.
