MAGGIES PENGUIN PARADE

2nd July 2018

Dundee United is proud to support the Maggie’s Centre, Wild in Art, sponsors, artists, schools and the community who have come together to welcome 80 giant, individually designed penguin sculptures to the region during summer 2018.

The display went live on June 29, and one of the penguins featured is a Dundee United themed penguin, situated at the Olympia Centre.

The penguin, sponsored by JF Kegs and designed by artist Gordy Craw, has a code which you can type into the phone app (Phone App goes live later this week) to 'collect' the penguin.

Once you 'collect' the penguin, you will be transferred to an offer page, and for the Dundee United penguin, the offer is a free child's ticket (when purchased with an adult ticket for the same game) for any match of your choice in the coming season.

The penguin trail is now live and will be live all summer culminating in a grand farewell event in Slessor Gardens on 22 and 23 September before a spectacular auction on 24 September 2018.

Children in schools across the city will be learning all about penguins and decorate smaller sized penguins that will join their friends on the trail before returning to live with their adopted school family.

Maggie’s Centres provide free practical, social and emotional support for people with cancer and their families and friends offering a programme of support that has been shown to strengthen physical and emotional wellbeing. Built in the grounds of Ninewells Hospital our centre, designed by Frank Gehry, is warm, welcoming, and full of light and open space. It’s a place to find practical advice about benefits and eating well; a place where qualified experts provide emotional support; a place to meet other people or sit with a cup of tea.

The Maggies Centre costs £540,000 per year to run, and our aim for the parade is to raise enough money to open our doors for a year.

Maggie’s Penguin Parade is a partnership event between Maggie’s Dundee and Wild in Art.

Wild in Art is one of the leading producers of spectacular, mass-appeal public art events, which connect businesses, artists and communities through the power of creativity and innovation.
