PITCH REGENERATION WORK

29th May 2018

It is the close season and, with players leaving and new contracts and extensions being signed, work is continuing on investment in the playing squad, but the investment is also being implemented behind the scenes at the Club.

Late last week, the playing surface was removed in preparation for vertical sand-banding - an operation that involves creating, across the turf, slits that are then filled to the surface with sand. There is very little growing-in time required, and it provides rapid surface drainage to ensure the pitch remains in the best possible condition all-year round and encourages better growth.

It has been some years since the pitch was regenerated in such a way and the extent of this process should ensure that the grass does not require sand-banding again for up to five years.

Chairman Mike Martin said: “We are investing in our on and off-field operations in a structured way with every aspect of our work designed to deliver improvement throughout the Club. In this case, we aim to make sure that Tannadice continues to be one of the best surfaces in the country for playing professional football.”
