Dundee Decides is your chance, as a local citizen, to vote on improvements to your community. Dundee City Council have put aside £1.2m of their Infrastructure Fund for a public vote to finance physical projects like improvements to play areas, introducing pedestrian crossings, pavements, lighting and planting. Citizens can visit www.dundeedecides.org, choose their local area, and within that section vote for the project(s) they wish to see realised. Dundee has eight electoral wards, namely Strathmartine, Lochee, West End, Coldside, Maryfield, North East, East End and The Ferry and each ward has been allocated up to £150,000 to spend. Voting is open to everyone who lives in Dundee aged 11 or above!
The Club very much supports this new form of community engagement and is pleased to invite Dundee Decides into the Tannadice concourses on 17 March when we play Inverness CT. Look out for the staff and volunteers of Dundee City Council Neighbourhood Services who, equipped with ipads, will encourage local Dundee United supporters to vote for projects within their area.
John Alexander, leader of Dundee City Council who helped launch the consultation said: “Across Scotland a lot of funding has already been invested in getting citizens involved in setting spending priorities and this is a really exciting opportunity for Dundonians to have their say.
“We are the first council in the country to allocate a proportion of our mainstream budget to this participatory process called Dundee Decides and I am sure that the people of Dundee will get behind it and tell us where they think we should be spending their money.
“The process is as easy to use, robust and fair as we could make it and by March when we announce the results I am sure it will have caught the imagination of people in every one of our communities.”
Dundee United Director David Dorward said: "The Club are delighted to be able to assist Dundee City Council with the Dundee Decides initiative. This is a real opportunity for individual citizens of Dundee to have their say on what improvements they wish to see developed in their local community. It will only take a few moments to vote on how you wish the £150,000 spend in your local area."
