The Club is proud to throw a light on prostate disease awareness at our match versus St Mirren this Saturday with various activities taking place throughout the ground.
- Two prostate awareness stations located in the lower tiers of the Eddie Thompson and George Fox stands near the ArabTRUST shops.
- Staffed prematch and half time.
- Posters throughout the male toilets.
- Both teams warming up in bespoke t-shirts.
In a very practical way of addressing the issue head on, there will be two prostate awareness stations within the Tannadice concourses where supporters can speak to people experienced in this field - including the Clinical Specialist Urology nurse from Ninewells - and even complete a symptoms self check. These information stands are located in the lower tiers of the Eddie Thompson and George Fox stands near the ArabTRUST shops. The stalls will be staffed both pre match and at half time and dividers are provided for added privacy for those wishing to complete the symptoms self check.
Posters throughout the ground - including in the male toilets - are intended to encourage male fans to get the check and information leaflets are available in all areas of the ground.
To underline the message even further, the team will warm up in bespoke prostate awareness t-shirts and we are very pleased that our visitors St Mirren have agreed to join us in this piece of symbolic action.
Saturday’s activities are supported by ArabTRUST, who have kindly agreed to sponsor the United t-shirts, the Dundee United Community Trust (DUCT) as well as the St Mirren Independent Supporters' Association (SMISA) who are funding the t-shirts the visiting players will be warming up in.
ArabTRUST Chairman Gavin Muir said: "ArabTRUST are delighted to work with Prostate Scotland, DUCT and the Club to raise awareness of prostate disease. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in Scotland affecting approximately 10% of the male population and it is therefore important to raise awareness of the both symptoms and the support available to those diagnosed with prostate disease as widely as possible."
Community Trust Chairman David Dorward added: "DUCT is proud to work together with the Club and other partners on this important issue. Tannadice brings together thousands of men on a matchday and as such is the ideal place for raising awareness."
Dundee United Chairman Stephen Thompson said: “I am proud that the Club is hosting this event. The Thompson family has been directly affected by prostate cancer. My mother and I hope that by raising awareness about the disease and offering the symptoms self checks, we can prevent others from the suffering my father and we as a family have gone through."
