UNITED SIGN STEPHEN CARSON

6th August 2001

United confirmed this evening that winger Stephen Carson has completed his move from Rangers to Tannadice in a three year deal.

Twenty-year old Stephen, who had been set to move to Stoke City at the
weekend, is delighted to be joining United and pleased to be improving his chances of regular first team place. The Northern Ireland Under-21 international has started only four games for the Rangers first team and is keen to move to Tayside to gain regular top-team football.

Carson said: "It's nice to have a manager who wants to give you the chance of first-team football. I enjoyed my time at Ibrox, but I'm glad to be here with the chance to play in the SPL. United appear to be going places."

Alex Smith was equally pleased to capture the young Ulsterman. "Stephen is very quick, two-footed and can play in any position across the front, including striker. I like the way he plays football and feel he'll offer us an awful lot in terms of pace and ability."

Carson s expected to be handed a right-wing role by United manager Alex Smith and he is likely to start on the bench away to St Johnstone on Saturday.
