Dundee United WFC (Women’s Football Club) are delighted to announce a new partnership with local club Dryburgh Athletic Girls who are part of Dryburgh Athletic Community Club. This partnership will see both clubs join forces to help promote and grow the girls’ game in the area, and provide a pathway for players from girls’ level right through to the women’s game.
Dundee United WFC Head Coach Gavin Beith said:
“I’m delighted that both clubs have agreed to enter into this partnership. The development of players and the growth of the game are seen by all at Dundee United WFC as an integral part of what the Club would like to achieve going forward. I believe working with local clubs is the best way to offer opportunities for players to develop and most importantly, stay involved in the game.
“Having the opportunity to work with a prominent club like Dryburgh Athletic Community Club is very exciting, and everyone at the Club is looking forward to it.”
Whilst many clubs in the women’s game are focused on developing their own academies to bring through young talent, this form of partnership brings a very different and innovative approach to linking grassroots football to the senior game. This allows grassroots girls’ clubs to build on and further develop a strong girls’ offering whilst having the support and access to additional resources from a senior club. Most importantly, this joined up approach will further strengthen the options made available to girls of all ages throughout Dundee and the surrounding areas, hopefully resulting in more choosing to take up and progress with playing football.

“Dryburgh Athletic Community Club are delighted our girls section is to join with Dundee United WFC in what we see as a ground breaking football partnership.
“Dryburgh Athletic Girls FC have gone from strength to strength over the past few years and we see this partnership as a natural progression that will allow us to continue to develop and grow as a club.
“First and foremost, linking with Dundee United WFC gives our girls the opportunity to aim for the very top, with a pathway now open to both their Development Squad and ultimately their First Team. With our teams ranging from under 9s to under 17s, and numbers at around 85 girls at the club currently, this provides these girls with a fantastic opportunity.
“As well as the benefits of a women's football pathway, this partnership will aid Dryburgh in many other ways. Coach CPD, training opportunities, training visits, session resources and support from the Dundee United WFC back room staff are just a few benefits to our club.
“We'd like to thank Gavin Beith and his team for asking Dryburgh to become part of the Dundee United family and look forward to a long, productive and happy football partnership.”
After an incredible inaugural season for Dundee United WFC, this partnership shows the drive and determination of the Club to quickly be seen as one of the leaders in the area. There is no doubt they are going to continue to grow and go from strength to strength, having already announced the launch of a Development Team to add to their First Team for the 2017 season. There is most definitely an exciting future ahead for the world of girls’ and women’s’ football in the City of Dundee.

“After winning both the League and League Cup in our 1st season, I am delighted with both the launch of a new Development Team and this exciting partnership with Dryburgh Athletic Girls. It is extremely important to everyone involved at Dundee United WFC that we play our part in growing the girls’ and women’s game in Scotland and we believe this approach of working with an established and well run grassroots club is the optimum way to do this. We have already had some of the girls from Dryburgh along to train with us on a few occasions which has been a massive success, and we are all excited to see more of this working together as time goes on. I am incredibly proud of everything this Club has achieved in just one year and look forward to seeing things continue to grow and develop as we prepare to enter our second season.”
