Dundee United will play in their vivid pink third kit during their match with Dumbarton on Saturday (22 October) to raise vital funds for Breast Cancer Now’s life-saving research and spread awareness of the disease.
Football fans will be encouraged to 'Wear it Pink' and to text BCN to 70300 to donate £3 to support Breast Cancer Now’s research. The Club website will be pink themed on Saturday and ahead of kick-off, the PA announcer will explain why the team are wearing pink, and big screen branding across the stadium will provide fans with the text response number to donate to the charity. All social media graphics will also be pink themed for this match.
All funds raised during the match will go directly to Breast Cancer Now’s cutting-edge research, which will help the charity to meet their ambition that by 2050, everyone who develops breast cancer will live.
Ray McKinnon, Manager said, “We’re delighted to support Breast Cancer Now and, with the help of our loyal fans, we want to spread awareness and raise much-needed funds for research.
“Breast Cancer is all too common – everyone knows someone who has experienced this awful disease – so we want to play a part in helping to ensure that by 2050 everyone who develops breast cancer will live.
“So, this Saturday support our Terrors in pink and don’t forget to text your donation!”
Mary Allison, Director for Scotland, Breast Cancer Now said: “We’re incredibly grateful that Dundee United has chosen to support Breast Cancer Now.
"Right now, more women are being diagnosed with breast cancer than ever before. Around 1,000 people die from the disease and over 4,600 are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in Scotland.
“We believe that, by 2050, breast cancer will have taken its last life – but only if we all act now. It’s thanks to fantastic supporters like Dundee United that we can invest in research that’s finding new ways to prevent, detect and treat breast cancer so that no one has to lose the men and women they love to this disease.”
The vivid pink replica strip, produced as a third option for United this season has been one of the best-selling kits provided by the Club over the years and Dundee United Direct is currently fully stocked in all sizes from SB right through to XXL. Also on sale currently are pink scarfs.
Any purchases of both the pink kit and pink scarfs between now and Saturday will see 10% of the profits donated to Breast Cancer Now.
