Dundee United Women’s Football Club can lift silverware this Thursday night in the SWFL2 League Cup final, when they meet Dunfermline Development at Ainslie Park, Edinburgh in a 7.30 pm kickoff.
The side remains unbeaten in all competitive matches so far, in this their inaugural season, and currently sit top of the SWFL Division 2 East with full points, a game in hand and a goal difference of +48, marking a terrific start to their competitive existence.
The route to the League Cup final saw them beat Pollok United, Stenhousemuir, Renfrew, and St Rochs, scoring 28 goals in the process and conceding only three times.
A combination of youth and experience is evident in the DUWFC side. Five of the girls are aged just 15 and recently attended the SFA under 16 national camp.
Head coach Gavin Beith has put together a quality backroom staff to take the side this far, with goalkeeping coach Kenny Strachan, and assistant coaches Craig Ferret, Jo Whittet and Sam Devine crucial to their stunning success so far.
Club secretary Lorna Moffat, and chair of the Club, Justine Mitchell, have combined their talents to make the dream of a women’s team at Dundee United become a reality.
Sponsorship from Dr Noodles, ArabTRUST, DUDA and Paint-tec has been a vital component of the success of the team, providing the financial backing to make it all possible.
The team was formed through United for All, the community charitable trust, and with a place already booked in the third round of the Scottish Cup, this could be a first season success in the silverware stakes.
