FIFA’s International Football Association Board (IFAB) has approved the most extensive revision of the Laws of the Game in its 130-year history. The revision, which is aimed to make the laws easier to understand and more appropriate for the 21st century, includes changes whereby the denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity (DOGSO) will now be a yellow card if the foul was an attempt to play the ball or challenge on an opponent for the ball. Another significant amendment concerns penalties whereby, when the kicker stops and ‘feints’ at the end of their run, it will always be an indirect free kick and yellow card even if they score (i.e. no retake).
