Dundee United edged this hard fought and entertaining encounter at Glebe Park by the odd goal in five.
By Peter Rundo
United took the lead after six minutes when Ali Coote latched onto Cammy Ballantyne’s ball over the top to steer the ball into the far corner from just inside the box.
Although the visitors dictated play, it was without testing the keeper.
Meanwhile, at the other end, keeper Conor Cullen beat away efforts from Coote and then Robbie Muirhead.
However, ten minutes from the interval, only a goal-line clearance by Harry Souttar from Neil McLaughlin kept that lead intact.
But two minutes later, Thistle did level when Kevin Nisbet capitalised on a defensive to drill a 25-yarder under the advancing keeper.
Both teams had chances early in the second half before the Tangerines went in front, Flo Sinama Pongolle converting a Justin Johnson cross after 63 minutes.
It was a short-lived advantage, however, with McLaughlin netting the equaliser after Joe McGovern had parried a Nisbet effort.
And two minutes later, substitute Aaron Murrell prodded home a Coote cross for the winner.
