Tannadice boss Alex Smith has handed over his latest managerial award - to the Tangerines' support! The Bank of Scotland 'Manager of the Month' title for May was presented by the sponsors as recognition of his part in steering United out of the SPL relegation zone.
The Club won their last four league fixtures - three of them in May - to edge clear of St Mirren at the foot of the table and Smith was quick to recognise the part played by the fans in that vital spell for the Club.
He pointed out, "They were like a twelfth man at times. Mind you, they retained their loyalty for the players all through the difficult period, and none more so than during those important games at the end of the season. So I intend to dedicate this award to the fans. They helped lift the side to greater heights when it mattered, they were fantastic. Take it as read that the players fully appreciate that this prize is being handed over to the supporters. I would hope that the Federation would display it for all to see when they are enjoying their pints before and after games in the future."
Supporters' official Norrie Boath was delighted with the gesture from the Manager. He said, "Alex Smith has long appreciated the backing of the fans, but this is tremendous news".
