HOLIDAYS BEGIN

21st May 2001

Monday was the first day of the holidays for the United squad, and after Sunday's closing win at Aberdeen, there were plenty smiles on faces as the players headed off for their summer break.

The 2-1 Pittodrie success meant the Tangerines ended with a comfortable five point lead over relegated St Mirren and Manager Alex Smith was happy with the work his players put in over the closing months of the season.

"Since the turn of the year they have been superb and our record in the second half of the campaign has been one of the best in the league. In that time we have won at places like Ibrox, Dens and now Pittodrie and that shows we can compete at a high level," he said.
