SFA Youth Cup: United 5 Alloa 1

1st November 2015

The Tangerines had to come from behind before easing through to the third round of the Scottish Youth Cup at Glebe Park this afternoon. By Peter Rundo Just three minutes had gone when the young Wasps took a shock lead in bizarre fashion, United keeper Ryan Booth’s clearance cannoning off the back of Kevin McDonald and rebounding into the empty net. The Tangerines then created and missed several chances and also had what looked a stonewall penalty denied when Justin Johnson was brought down in the box. However, they were back on level terms after 34 minutes when Aaron Duke’s header from a Cammy Ballantyne cross looped in. Three minutes from the interval, Ali Coote tapped home Johnson’s cross after a great run by the winger to give United the lead. In the second half it was pretty much one-way traffic and on 57 minutes Coote added a third with a diagonal shot from 15 yards into the far corner. Midway through the half, Graham Taylor rounded off a superb sweeping move, stroking the ball home from 10 yards for number four. And seven minutes from the end, Coote completed his hat-trick slipping the ball past the advancing keeper after being put through by Duke. Dundee United: Booth, Ballantyne (Tumilty 75), H Souttar, Sukar (McNaughton 78), Robson, B Smith, Horne (Allardice 75), Johnson, Coote, Taylor, Duke. Subs not used: Conway, Ritchie, Davie.
