Development League: United 0 Kilmarnock 1

21st April 2015

Kilmarnock emerged narrow victors from what was the proverbial game of two halves at Station Park, Forfar, this afternoon. By Peter Rundo Although fairly even in terms of possession, the Tangerines undoubtedly had the better chances in the opening period. The best came midway through the half when Ola Adeyemo ran on to a long ball from Darren Petrie, but the keeper pushed his low drive away and the danger was eventually cleared. Then just before the interval, Matty Smith knocked a Jamie Robson cross just the wrong side of the post. Having been restricted to just a handful of shots from distance in the first half, Killie started the second half much the sharper. They came close to taking the lead after 53 minutes, Scott MacLean running on to a through ball, but Luis Zwick pushed his drive from a narrow angle over the bar. And from a similar move six minutes later, Greg Kiltie firing an angled effort just inside the far post. Thereafter, Kilmarnock held the upper hand, but United were very unlucky not to level with 16 minutes left. Scott Smith shrugged off a challenge and crashed a 25-yarder onto the bar and Matty Smith, following up, fired the rebound wide of the target. United made two substitutions to try and rescue a point, but it proved fruitless and the game ended with a bit of afters which resulted in substitute Aaron Duke sent off after the final whistle.
