A goal by defender Harry Souttar nine minutes from time earned the Tannadice side a narrow victory over their more experienced hosts in today's clash at the Excelsior Stadium.
The first half produced just two shots on target both from the Pars with Fayssl El Chatoui and Allan Smith seeing efforts well held by United keeper Luis Zwick.
United’s first shot on target came early in the second half when Jamie Montgomery’s curling shot was well saved by Pars keeper Jamie Wilson.
The Tangerines went close to breaking the deadlock with 19 minutes left when Robbie Muirhead hit the top of the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the box.
Seven minutes from the end, the Fifers had their best effort of the second period, Declan O’Kane powering in a header but straight at Zwick.
And four minutes from time, Harry Souttar won it for the visitors, diving to head home an Ali Coote corner.
Just before the end, Montgomery was only denied from adding a second by Wilson’s dash from goal.
