Development League: United 2 St Johnstone 1

13th February 2015

The Tannadice side just edged today's hard fought encounter at Station Park, Forfar this afternoon. Though it has to be said there was very little between the sides. There was an early let off for the Tangerines with Jamie Robson clearing off the line. However, after 19 minutes Ali Coote gave United the lead. His run towards goals was blocked just outside the box, but he regained possession to fire low into the far corner from 15 yards. If United held the upper hand in the first half, the opposite was true after the interval. So it was against the run of play when Aaron Duke doubled their lead in 63 minutes, slotting home from just inside the box with Cammy Ballantyne having done the spadework. Saints deservedly pulled one back with 13 minutes left when substitute Jack Parr found the net with a shot on the turn. However, hard as they tried, the Perth side could not conjure up an equaliser. Dundee United: McGovern, McNaughton, Robson, Ballantyne, H Souttar, McLaughlin, Tumilty (Malaga 46), B Smith, Duke (Horne 89), Montgomery, Coote. Subs not used: Zwick, Davie, Hornby. St Johnstone: Hurst, Comrie, Evans, Kitchen, Kerr, McLaren, Reid (Hunter 61), Kerr (Aitken 73), Lander (Parr 61), Simpson. Subs not used: Buchanan, Gray, Esslemont.
