A second half strike consigned the Tangerines to defeat by a more experienced Falkirk side in this afternoon’s home fixture at the Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie.

The goal that decided it was a mishit deflected volley from Kevin O’Hara after 58 minutes, but that was rough justice on United in a hugely entertaining end to end encounter.
Indeed, United created a whole host of chances but their luck was summed up in an first half incident in which the Bairns keeper made a tremendous save to deny Aaron Duke and excel even further to keep out Reghan Tumilty’s follow up effort and then deny a Tumilty a second time!
Although Falkirk had their chances, they were nothing like as prolific as the Tannadice side with Euan Spark on the end of Chris McLaughlin’s pinpoint cross only to head over.
After the break, Duke was through one on one with keeper but failed to get what would have been a deserved leveller.
Despite throwing the proverbial kitchen sink at the Bairns in the later stages, United did everything but score most notably with substitute Rafa Malaga going desperately close on two occasions.
Dundee United: Szromnik, Spark, Robson, Ballantyne, H Souttar, McLaughlin, Tumilty, B Smith, Duke, Montgomery, Coote (Malaga 60).
Substitutes not used: Zwick, McNaughton, Horne.-
