Derby Preview

As we bid farewell to a year in which the Club has made significant strides both on and off the park, 2015 starts with a bang as United host Dundee at Tannadice in the third derby of the season. By Ally Stewart The Terrors will look to bounce back from defeat at McDiarmid Park while the Dark Blues will be similarly licking their wounds following defeat at home to St Mirren. The up and down form shown by United over the last month hasn't deterred what will be a huge backing at the match with tickets sold out well in advance. No matter what these games are massive for the tangerine faithful who have enjoyed watching their charges reign supreme over their neighbours in recent encounters. No greater inspiration for this match is there than the 4-1 demolition enjoyed at Dens earlier in the season. With both going into the game on form and Dundee unbeaten at the time, many had struggled to predict the outcome. From the first whistle, a United side minus Nadir Ciftci stamped their authority and in the end could have won be an even bigger margin. Not only were they deadly when their chances came along but they first and foremost won the battle that day, a feat they will need to repeat if they are to run out victors again this time. Manager Jackie McNamara hasn't shied away from making changes to his side this season and again there are several players who could come into contention having missed the late defeat to St Johnstone. Charlie Telfer, Ryan Dow and Aidan Connolly have all shown at different stages what an impact they can have in the team's attacking play. Also coming into this category is Gary Mackay-Steven who has seen his appearances of late hindered due to illness and he is another who will be in contention for a place in the starting side. Missing will be Paul Paton who serves the last of a three match suspension while elsewhere it is hoped that illness and other niggles clear up leaving an almost full squad to choose from. The Club occupies third spot in the league, are in a semi final of the League Cup and still strong contenders for the Scottish Cup. While this is an enviable position to currently be in, nothing is decided until the coming month so what a start to the year it would be to begin with three points over our great rivals. Let's embrace this position and give our all in getting behind the team for the 90 minutes. As we have seen previously it could make all the difference to the players. Come on United!!! With a large crowd and a 12.15pm kick off time, it is anticipated that entry to the stadium may take slightly longer than usual so please arrive in plenty of time to ensure entry before kick-off. Supporters are reminded that this game is completely sold out and that the ticket office is open from 10am to 12.15pm on New Year's Day for collections of pre-paid tickets.
