DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE: UNITED 1 DUNFERMLINE 3

28th October 2014

Dunfermline’s more experienced side took a long time to get the better of what was, with the exception of keeper Marc McCallum, Dundee United’s youth team’s resistance. The Pars made the breakthrough after 19 minutes when a corner  was only cleared to the edge of the box where Sorrell Chemin collected before despatching a low left footed drive into the bottom left-hand corner. Apart from a free header from a corner that whizzed over, the Tangerines’ defence denied the visitors any other clear-cut opportunities before the interval. United’s only threat came from a surging run from Jamie Montgomery whose 25-yarder was well saved by Cammy Gill. It was a similar story in the second half, though home keeper Marc McCallum had to rush from goal to boot clear from the on-rushing Gozie Ugwu. With eight minutes left, the Fifers sealed victory, Andy Stirling diverting home a low cross from the left. Two minutes later Chemin added a third with a shot from distance into the top corner. Consolation for United came in stoppage time when Ola Adeyemo was brought down in the box which saw the offender Jordan Orru red carded before Adeyemo duly converted the penalty.
