DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE: FALKIRK 0 UNITED 1

30th September 2014

An Aidan Connolly goal after 33 minutes enabled the Tangerines to chalk up a deserved, if narrow, first win of the season in a match which was switched to the Falkirk Stadium. By Peter Rundo In truth, having dominated the first period, the points should have been in the bag after the visitors created and missed a hatful of chances. Indeed their winner only came after a blunder by home keeper Graham Bowman who misjudged Aidan Connolly’s diving header from a Calum Butcher cross and only helped the ball on its way to the back of the net. Although a Scott Smith shot was touched on to the post by Bowman early in the second half, United lost their grip on the game. Taking control of proceedings, the Bairns forced United on the back foot, but failed to create anything really clear-cut. So much so, other than a shot from outside the box, which clipped the crossbar, the visitors’ defence remained solid and ran the clock down in reasonable comfort. Dundee United: Szromnik, Spark, Wilson, Butcher, Harwood, Ballantyne, Fraser (Montgomery 63), S Smith, Adeyemo (Moore 59), Telfer (Lockhead 75)Connolly. Subs not used: Zwick, Malaga.
