Despite the heavy defeat at Celtic Park last Saturday, United will be very happy with six points from the three games they have played so far. This could be seen as a great return from games against the last season’s top three teams.
By Gareth Scott Saturday sees United back to the normality of a 3pm Saturday kick off at Tannadice when Ross County come calling. Derek Adams’s side have had a huge overhaul over the summer with a number of new recruits and players leaving. The Staggies are sitting bottom of the table with three straight defeats so it may be a case that the new look side are taking time to gel. Therefore United will have to be wary and in top form to secure the three points. Over the years the sides have played out a number of closely fought encounters however Arabs’ fondest memory is the Cup Final victory back in 2010 against County. Last season United had two good wins over Saturday’s visitors with a particularly impressive 4-2 win in Dingwall when former favourite Ryan Gauld starred. However County did outplay United with a 3-0 win in January at Victoria Park in the last meeting between the teams. The Tannadice head to head record shows three United victories and three draws. With no home defeats against tomorrow’s opponents the history books suggest a home win. In football, history books and form are dangerous animals and the players will be confident but respectful going into the game. Jackie McNamara has one or two injury doubts ahead of the game with Armstrong and Dow in particular hoping to recover in time. If United perform at their best then hopefully the three points will stay at Tannadice.
