United progressed to the Scottish Cup Final with a deserving 3-1 victory against Rangers at Ibrox. First half goals from Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven were followed by a Steven Smith free kick before half time. A nervous second half ensued but the game was settled in 83 minutes when Nadir Ciftci scored from close range.

From the off it was an open game with both sides creating notable chances. Dean Shiels missed when clean through and despite some nervy moments United went ahead after 23 minutes. After a free kick was not properly cleared Gavin Gunning headed into the path of Stuart Armstrong who prodded home in off the post. After Jon Daly ballooned a huge chance high over with half an hour played the terrors were again clinical in their response. Nadir Ciftci played in Ryan Gauld on the bye line and his cut back was directed by Armstrong into the path of Mackay-Steven. His close range shot deflected off a Rangers body and looped high into the net. By now the 11000 strong Arab army were in raptures. Rangers had been a constant threat from set pieces and almost on half time the terrors were dealt a blow as Steven Smith curled a free kick low past Cierzniak and into the net at the near post.
It was a far more scrappy second half following what had been a whirlwind opening period. Rangers were again threatening at set pieces and in the 77th minute only a sensational stop by Cierzniak from a deflected Smith free kick prevented an equaliser. Another goal was clearly needed to settle the nerves in the United ranks and thankfully Ciftci duly obliged in the 83rd minute. The Turkish front man pounced on a slip up by Simonsen and side stepped the goalkeeper before running the ball into the net to the absolute joy of the packed stand of United supporters behind. They knew at this point the Tangerines were heading into the final at Parkhead.
