In an entertaining encounter at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, a more experienced Caley Thistle came from two down back to edge out Dundee United.
United went ahead after only three minutes through Jamie Montgomery.
A Chris McLaughlin free-kick was parried by Cammy Mackay who then blocked Aidan Connolly's follow up effort, but Montgomery squeezed the ball over the line.
However, three minutes later only a double save kept their lead intact.
First, United keeper Marc McCallum blocked an Adam Evans effort and, although Ally Sutherland pounced on the rebound, Montgomery brilliantly cleared off the line.
On 11 minutes, the Tangerines doubled their lead. Reghan Tumilty picked up a loose ball, went past a defender before slotting the ball home from just inside the box.
The hosts pulled one back thanks to a defensive error after 25 minutes when Evans latched on to a Montgomery back pass to angle the ball past the advancing McCallum from 15 yards.
Although Caley Thistle had now gained the upper hand, only a flying finger-tip save by Mackay keeping out Brad Smith's rasping 25-yarder prevented the visitors increasing the lead ten minutes after the restart.
But with the home side continuing to dominate, they were rewarded with a leveller after 71 minutes, substitute Jamie Wilson's angled drive creeping inside the near post.
And with seven minutes left, indecision in the United defence let Evans in to fire the home side ahead.
That said, only a reflex Mackay save from a Scott Fraser flick prevented a United equaliser.
