Everyone at Dundee United is saddened to hear of the death of former goalkeeper Rolando Ugolini, who has died at the age of 89.
Born in Lucca, Italy, Rolando started his career with Armadale Thistle, before signing for signing for Celtic in March 1944. In his four seasons at Parkhead, he played only five times before being transferred to Middlesbrough in 1948.
He spent ten years on Teesside, making over 300 appearances, becoming a legendary figure. Moved to Wrexham in 1957, he responded to Jerry Kerr's appeal to delay his retirement and add some much needed experience to the newly-promoted United squad in the summer of 1960.
Whilst at Tannadice, he made 52 appearances, before being released in May 1962. He retired from football later that year, but always took a keen interest in the affairs of his former clubs and contributed a memorable interview for the Club's Centenary DVD.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
