The Club is delighted to announce that legendary goalkeeper and Hall of Fame inductee Hamish McAlpine has been appointed Official Club Ambassador.
Hamish will be presented with a seat for life in the Directors' Box at Tannadice and will represent the Club at a wide range of events, including all home games where he will be present in the board room and hospitality areas, and accompany the Board of Directors to European fixtures.
Hailed as one of United's greatest ever eleven, Hamish represented the team on the park for 18 years making 688 appearances, including 38 in the Uefa Cup and a notable eight matches in the European Cup, culminating in the Club's fabulous run to the semi final 30 years ago in season 1983/84.
Director Derek Robertson said, "The board of Dundee United is delighted that Hamish has accepted our invitation to become the first ever Ambassador for the Club. Hamish is a hugely popular and highly respected individual with all Dundee United supporters and held in such affectionate esteem that when a United fan simply refers to 'Hamish' - there is only one Hamish being discussed! He is immediately recognisable, throughout football and beyond, as someone associated with Dundee United and is the ideal person to represent the Club in this way. It was a privilege to watch Hamish in action at Tannadice all these years ago and it is a privilege to be able to announce this appointment."
A delighted Hamish McAlpine said, "It's a fantastic honour to be asked to be Dundee United's Club Ambassador. United has formed a massive part of my life and I am delighted to accept this wonderful gesture. Obviously a lot has changed at the Club since my playing days, but the passion and desire to do the best they can and entertain is as prevalent today as it was back then.
"Dundee United are a magnificent Club with great fans and I will be proud to once again serve and be part of what is a true United family. I am looking forward to once again being around the Club on matchdays and doing my utmost to promote the name and reputation of Dundee United everywhere."
