UNITED U20S 1 - 3 ROSS COUNTY U20S

18th February 2014

Two penalty conversions put paid to Dundee United's hopes of salvaging a point from their Under-20s League fixture with Ross County at St Andrews University.

In the end, the much more youthful Tangerines were beaten 3-1 after clawing their way back into the game despite the visitors dominating the opening period.

Indeed, the hosts were lucky to only go in trailing to Darren Maatsen's 28th minute opener.

But in an improved second half performance, United fought back to level on the hour mark when County's Scott Ferris's looping back header from a Jordan Allan long throw dropped inside the far post.

However, County regained the lead with 20 minutes left when the lively Tony Dingwall scored from the spot.

And he repeated his success from 12 yards seven minutes from time after he had been stopped in his tracks as he cut along the byeline.
