The Under-20s ended a run of four straight defeats beating Partick Thistle 2 - 1 in their first game back after the winter break.
Bizarrely enough, whilst played at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie, this was a home game for the Tangerines.
United's goals came in the first half with Kudus Oyenuga scoring a brace, but Ryan Dow was involved in both, setting up the first and being brought down for the penalty.
Although Thistle pulled a goal back early in the second half, United were well worth the three points.
There was a chance early on for Oyenuga and shortly afterwards Chris McLaughlin headed inches past.
But United deservedly took the lead after 25 minutes when Dow played Oyenuga behind the defence and although Thistle keeper Mark Watters blocked his shot, the ball rebounded off the striker and went in.
Five minutes later, Aidan Connolly sent Dow in one on one with the keeper who brought him down and Oyenuga converted the clear-cut penalty.
Just before the interval, Thistle threatened for the first time with Jamie Hamilton, but United keeper Marc McCallum tipped over his well struck angled effort.
After being under the cosh in the first half, Thistle were back in the game within three minutes of the re-start, Declan McDaid hammering in a low shot from the edge of the box.
Although the second half was much more even, United created the better chances.
With 14 minutes left, a Connolly shot was cleared off the line and near the end only the post prevented Oyenuga completing his hat-trick.
