Two down at the interval, the battling Tangerines came very close to securing a draw in today's hard fought fixture at Balmoor Stadium, Peterhead.
The Dons, who had Chris Clark, Cammy Smith and Jshua Magennis, all with first team experience in their ranks, struck after 19 minutes.
The visitors were punished for failing to clear their lines and Scott McKenna fired home from close range.
And the home side went close just after the half-hour mark with Stephen O'Neill's cross-cum- shot striking the post.
But three minutes from the interval they did double their lead when Magennis headed home a cross from the right.
If United had failed to threaten in the first half despite some neat build up play, they looked far more threatening in the second.
They sounded an early warning when Aidan Connolly and Jame Montgomery sliced their way through the Dons defence only for the latter to miss the target when well placed.
And on 63 minutes, they deservedly reduced the leeway.
Montgomery was the architect with a cut-back to Connolly who jinked his way to create space to fire home from close range for his fifth goal in three games.
Both sides had chances to score before the end, most notably three minutes from time when Montgomery was clean through only to fire over.
And just before the final whistle, only a great save by Joe McGovern kept out Lawrence Shankland's effort which looked destined for the top corner.
